Warrior

Well it's been awhile...orrrrrrrr maybe a looooooonnnnnnnnnnnng while since I've written one of these but life has been moving pretty fast lately. So hopefully I can keep movie viewers informed on what I think is great...or NOT so great in the movie world.

A couple weeks ago, Shane (the hubub) and I rented Warrior from Redbox. I loved loved LOVED the movie!!! I wanted to go enroll in kickboxing after I was finished watching it. Haha. This movie put me through so many emotions in just the short time it was on the screen. It had me on the edge of my seat wondering who was going to win?!, what would happen in the fight?!, it had me in pain watching blow after blow come down on the fighters (ouch!!!!!!), it had me in tears a couple of times ( I tried to hide them from the hubs), it had me standing up with my hands on top of my head screaming for the fighters to keep going on, DON'T GIVE UP!!! I highly recommend the movie if you enjoy boxing or mixed martial arts...if you don't, welllllllllll then it may be hard to stomach. I give this movie 10 out of 10 stars.

Black Swan

     Okay let me start off by saying how much I adore Natalie Portman. I've loved practically every movie she's ever been in. She's such a versatile actress that she can be in a kids movie to a creepy movie like Black Swan. I love this movie soooo much. I find it so frightening that you can EASILY loose your mind. Natalie Portman plays an extremely dedicated ballerina who wants the lead roll in Swan Lake; the white swan. Except the director of the ballet is changing the play up a bit by adding the sinister black swan to it and having the main roll play both parts. Natalie Portman's character is a very innocent, sweet, young girl who just wants to dance well and please her mother, with whom she lives with. Once her mind is SET on becoming the white and black swan, Portman's character takes a turn for the worst.
     This movie is so creepy in so many ways; from the cinematography, to the outfits during the play, to Portman's mind going out of control. It kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time watching it...alone (bad idea). I highly recommend this movie. Like I said, Portman has never failed me in a movie before and she doesn't start here with this one.

Deliver Me From a Bad Movie

Soooo yeah, I watched Deliverance last night and, ummm, yeah. That's all I can say about that movie. I've heard so many people talk about how creepy this movie was and the only part that creeped me out on this whole entire film was the banjo playing backwoods kid. That's it. Other than that, the movie kiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnda sucked. Granted it was an old film but there are TONS of old films that are on a better scale than this one. Let's just say that this was not Jon Voight's best film. I'd have to say it...was...his worst. The cinematography stunk, the acting was prettttttty bad, and the story line was just whack. Okay I'm sorry, I'll finish soapboxing this movie.

Out of 10 stars....I give it 2. (that's being generous)

An Appetizer of Favorite Flicks

(Sigggghhhhh) Movies and their infamous quotes, one-liners, lines we like to repeat time and time again to the ones we socialize with. Ooooh the fun of watching flicks (with a big grin)! Below are some of my ALL time favorite movies that I have literally watched over and over again to where there is more than likely a hole in the DVD.

• The Exorcist: "What an excellent day for an exorcism."
• A film about a young girl, Reagan, living with her divorced mother in the city. Reagan finds a wigi-board and begins playing with it, talking to it, and asking it questions. Little did she know, she let something in from the other side. Reagan begins experiencing very strange phenomena like her bed shaking, peeing on the floor in front of her mother's guest, screaming obscenities and much much worse. With nowhere else to turn, her mother contacts the Catholic church for help asking for an exorcism of her daughter. She tells them that she has had every test known to man run on her daughter and everything had come back normal. She's desperate. In comes the Father Merrin to save the day. He has no IDEA what he's up against. Watch as Reagan's personality goes from a sweet little girl to the Devil himself.
• If you have not seen this movie, you are SERIOUSLY missing out on one of the scariest movies of all time! If you can't handle scary movies...well...BUCK UP! All kidding aside, this is truly a great film. This is the kind of horror film that I'm talking about; it keeps you up at night wondering if your bed is going to go into violent tremors or if there really IS something living in your attic...wait, is there??!
• Linda Blair is one of the best child actresses I have ever seen in a film involving a child in a horror film. She made the viewer really believe that she was possessed by the Devil. And even though this film is an older film (my husband can't stand older movies) the cinematography is awesome, the makeup jobs that were performed on Linda Blair were amazing, and the music they used was chilling (I will never listen to Tubular Bells without seeing Reagan's face again).
• This film was so terrifying to the public when released that the producers had to cut out the scene where Reagan walks down the stairs in a back bend position. In theaters, when I saw this, I literally stopped breathing...yeah, it scared me that bad. To this day, I still have to look over my shoulder to make sure no one is there while watching this.
• NOT FOR CHILDREN!!!
• Out of 10 stars...I give this a 15
• Pretty in Pink: "Blane...his name is Blane?! That's not a name, that's a major appliance! God, I would have DIED for you!"
• A girl from the wrong side of the tracks just trying to make it through high school, falls for a boy who has it all....has it all except...her.  Andi, Molly Ringwald, has her best friend Ducky, Jon Cryer, following her around like a lost puppy just to make sure that everything she wants or needs is met, but Andi doesn't see it. Ducky is just a friend to Andi, someone to talk to, someone to lean on....but to him, Andi is the world. One day while working at the mall, Mr. Right comes walking through the door and they catch each others eyes. Andi keeps telling herself that there is no way this guy is actually interested in HER but only wants one thing. All her friends are disgusted asking her how could she date someone like him or even think of dating someone like him. Ducky can't see what she would ever see in a guy like that especially when he is at her beck and call night and day. A love begins to develop between Andi and Mr. Right and events begin to unfold. Andi has to choose who is the right Mr. Right...Ducky or The Right Side of The Tracks.
• Yeah, yeah, yeah...I know. If you're a guy reading this you're thinking "I knew it! I knew she was going to review a stupid 80's love story." But I mean, what do you expect, I'm a girl born in the 80's and I LOVE this movie! I love Molly Ringwald in everything she's acted in and Jon Cryer is just too cute for words in this film. To see the way he loves her and looks at her as if there was nothing more beautiful in the world than her makes me want a love story like that....wait...I HAVE THAT!!! Dream come true!! (Love you babe!) No but in all honesty, Jon Cryer's acting in here really makes you believe that he had a thing for Molly Ringwald, on and off the set.
• The music is awesome...the clothes are...well...80's.....but the acting is great! I love this movie! It's just a classic love story of which is the right person for me, which path should I choose, will he/she hurt me...it's all here. If you're a dude and you have a girlfriend and you're too embarrassed to watch this while she's home because you're too macho...then watch it while she's gone because you'll love the movie.

• Disney Movies:
• I have no quote for this because as I stated earlier...I LOVE EVERY DISNEY MOVIE! I had to put it on here because I truly love every single one that I have ever seen. Every time a new one comes out of the vault, as they say, I tell my parents "That's what I want for (insert holiday/birthday here)!" And viola!! There it is, and the wrapping is on the floor and the DVD player is a'turnin'!  Everything about these movies are great. They make you laugh, and cry right along with their characters (AND THEY'RE NOT EVEN REAL!). These movies, no joke especially the ones involving animals, made me the way I am with animals today. All of my animals/pets have voices and can talk. Ha ha...I know you think I'm crazy but it's true. I think "Hmmm...what does Rocky-dog/Enuk-pants/Zilker-bear (my dogs) think about that?!" Okay but all weirdness aside, these movies are very educational for kids. They teach kids very important lessons about friendship, kindness towards one another, obeying parents, love and many more lessons that all kids should know. And Lord knows kids these days need ALL the lessons in better behavior they can get.
• So even though kids need to be outside playing instead of plopped down in front of the television, let them watch one a night before bedtime or when it's too hot/cold out. It'll teach them those little lessons in life that all kids should know.
• FOR KIDS AND ADULTS

• Tombstone: "You tell 'em I'm coming, and Hell's comin' with me!! You hear?! Hell's comin' with me!"
• A movie about Wyatt Earp, Kurt Russell, and his brothers who are looking for a change in their everyday life so they decide to move to Tombstone, AZ with their wives. They decide to give up the sheriff's life and go into their own business of running a casino and bar. But after seeing how out of control Tombstone really is with all of their cowboys with the red sashes, the 3 brothers decide to take the law into their own hands. Watch this suspenseful, fast paced western of Wyatt Earp's life unfold.
• Okay so I can honestly say that I have not seen too many western movies because I can't really ever get in to them, but THIS western...oooooh emmmmm geee!! Seriously, I love this movie. My dad and I can almost recite the whole thing as we watch it. Kurt Russell and Val Kilmer as sidekick best friends are amazing and phenomenal! The action has your heart racing right along with the horses hooves, the cinematography makes you feel as if you're actually experiencing the Arizona heat, and the intensity of the actors makes you believe that they are who they are portraying. Every line that comes out of Val Kilmer's mouth as he portrays a sarcastic Doc Holliday is memorable. 
• I seriously can't say enough about this movie. If I could recite every one liner on here I would but...wait, okay I'll give you a few:
• "I'm your huckleberry."
• "Why Johnny Tyler! Where you think you're going with that shotgun?" "Doc? I didn't know yous back in town."....."Oh I'm sorry, I forgot you were standing there. You may leave the shotgun and go."
• "Wyatt Earp, you are an oak."
• "I've got 2 guns, one for each of ya."
• "Say when.."
• Okay I'll stop but seriously, so many great one-liners. I FINALLY received this DVD for Christmas and I love it! It's so intense, and Kurt Russell and Val Kilmer are such...well...bad assess, excuse my French, that it gives me chills just watching them kick butt throughout the whole film.
• FOR TEENS AND ADULTS
• Out of 10 stars...I give it a 10.
• The Notebook: "So it's not gonna be easy. It's going to be really hard; we're gonna have to work at this everyday, but I want to do that because I want you. I want all of you, forever, everyday. You and me... everyday."
• A true love story...that's all I can really say on this. If you thought Titanic was intense...this tops it.
• I know all of my guy followers are thinking "Ummm...where are the good movie reviews?" but seriously this one is phenomenal. I know I use that word alot but this is the best love story movie I've ever seen. I love Rachel McAdams as and actress and Ryan Gosling as an actor but when paired together they are the greatest couple to watch on film. The intensity between them in this film was awesome, sweet, romatic, sexy...pretty much everything that describes a firey relationship. You see their love unfold from the first time Noah, Ryan Gosling, lays eyes on Allie, Rachel McAdams. When he looks at her it's as if the world stops and he sees nothing else but her. It's funny, cute, romantic, intense, heartwarming, touching, sweet, sad...pretty much every word in the dictionary that describes a firey love story.
• FOR TEENS AND ADULTS
• Out of 10 stars...I give it a 10.
• The Shining: "Heeeeeerrrrrre's Johnny!"
• A man, Jack Nicholson, moves his family up to a hotel during the winter months after taking a position as caretakers of the Overlook Hotel. The owner warns Jack that they will be completely snowed in and may loose communication with the outside world for a couple months and that it was a problem for a previous caretaker. Jack tells him there is nothing to worry about because the isolation will give him time to work on a novel he's been trying to finish. Wow, was Jack wrong. Watch as Jack goes from sane to insane in a matter of months and terrorizes his own family.
• I love love love this movie. Besides The Exorcist, this is one of my favorite horror films because it messes with your sanity and fears. The feeling of not knowing if what you see is real or hear creeps me out. Jack Nicholson, one of my all time favorite actors, does an amazing job at showing what insanity could really look like, even though he doesn't need much help, ha ha. But seriously this movie is just very...eerie...that's the word I was looking for, just plain eerie. The twin girls in here that Danny, Jack Nicholson's son, sees are so creepy and them having a foreign accent that sound exactly alike adds to it. I love how the cinematography has warm, rich colors when they are inside the hotel to give you a feeling of warmth but when outside, everything is very blue and grey for a feeling of cold, damp nothingness. When I watch this I always have a blanket in hand because the cold of this movie actually makes me cold. Ha ha.
• FOR ADULTS
• Out of 10 stars...I give it a 9.
• Okay I have soooo many favorites that this blog could go on and on and on...well you get the point. So I'll post this one for you to read, enjoy, discuss or do what you like with it and I'll work on more of my favorites for you to read about. ENJOY!

The Beginning and Why

     I was at work one day discussing movies, which is a normal conversation I have with people, and I mentioned that I should probably critique films as a new hobby of mine because I love them so dearly. And then, like a lightbulb, it clicked. I'm going to start a blog discussing flicks I've seen over the years, new and old, and critique them!! What a GRAND idea!! What a FUN idea!!


     Since I was a little girl, I've always LOVED watching movies. My parents could put me in front of the television with any movie playing, and I would watch it...not half of the movie but the WHOLE thing. I love getting lost in a story someone is telling and living it with the character as if it were me! The excitement, the horror, the laughter, the tears...all of it...I LOVE IT!      I not only watch chick-flicks and love stories because I'm a girl. No, those movies are not my real passion. My real love of a movie is a good horror film. Not the blood, guts and gore but the really scary movies. The ones that make you throw your popcorn up in the air when the boogeyman comes out of the closet; the ones that make you scared to walk down your hall at night; the ones that keep you peering over your comforter and wrapped up tight even though it's 150 degrees outside. Yeah, those are the movies I'm talking about. But don't get me wrong, I love Disney movies too. I know, I know how can someone love Disney movies but also have the pants scarred off of them when watching a scary movie. I don't know...I just...do!
     If the movie has a good plot, a good story line, makes me think, has good cinematography, phenomenal actors and is a smidge on the quirky side at times...well reel me in because I'm hooked!
    I know this is not a normal blog like those people who write about their feelings, or things that are going on in their life, so I hope you will enjoy these critiques of movies just as much as I enjoy giving them and continue to follow me.
